Learning through two languages

Walnut Creek families are organizing to ask the Walnut Creek School District to seriously evaluate a Spanish-English immersion program for our children.
More languages. More opportunity. A brighter future.
Spanish immersion is not an extra class competing with math, science, reading or writing. In an immersion model, students learn core academic subjects through both English and Spanish.

Biliteracy can help children communicate with more people and navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
Whatever higher education and careers look like in the future, the ability to communicate across languages remains broadly useful.
California law and its implementing regulations establish a process for parents to request a new language acquisition program.

Reaching the threshold starts a required review โ it does not automatically create or enroll anyone in a new program.
WCSD says it will review the costs and resources needed and, within 60 calendar days of reaching the threshold, determine whether implementation is possible and provide written notice of that determination.
Choose the WCSD elementary school within your child's attendance boundary where your student is enrolled. We'll show you the current principal, the email address, and ready-to-send request text.
The template includes the information WCSD says a written request should contain: date, parent/guardian name, home address, student name and grade, requested school year, program description, and preferred languages of instruction.
Connect with other Walnut Creek families, get updates, and help build district-wide parent interest in Spanish immersion.
